SleepInstead of ripping the covers off,
          Shaking it violently,
                    And forcing cold breakfast down its throat,

I wish they would carefully wake a sleeping poem
And ask it gentle questions
          Before its dreams are forgotten

Sick.life slouches against the door

[i think i can hear it crying]

sickly grins lick my lips;

rub the undersides

of scream-sore throats

stained with the sweetest sort of bruise

every nerve--

a soft

atrium flow;

cutting

capillaries

screams all my own

swallowed in cotton lungs

pressure in my skull

fire in my veins

holding the skin i had

clinging tighter to fragility

and i just can't find

the strength to cry

anymore

the night stretches on for months

As my breath catches
At the coolness of your touch.

Calm these trembling hands
And hold them tight in yours.

My breath shudders with insecurity.
Press my body close to yours
So I don't shatter into fragments.

Tangle your legs in mine,

The Last Lie of SummerQuiet days, the overcast sky keeps
to itself, ignoring the living for weeks
at a time.

From half a state away-

you could hear trains roll through
towns like mine.

There is peace
and it can't be trusted

Undeserved suspicion
given to the first
fallen leaves.

This was the calm before the calm.
The man that is seen, but
nobody knows.

Promise yourself:
"Tomorrow I will say hello to him."

But we are all too busy dressing healed wounds.

Fervid AwakeningThere's a fire beneath my feet,
but not the kind that burns
mountains and ruins girls
made of papier-mâché—no,

these are the sparks that
drive the insane to dance in
the rain; the flames that
gave birth to a million voices
itching to be heard, too.

It's spreading, settling, somewhere deep
beneath my sternum, like an anticipatory
story, waiting to be told, giving
my heart the ardor to beat.

No one ever says happiness
is like a butterfly: beautiful,
flighty, and fleeting.

If you let it slip through your
fingers—you are left
alone, palms full of feathery dust
which soon fades and leads to the scary

AdventuresI walk on a road that takes me to a place I've never been before.....
I see the northern lights; I lay in the dessert late at nights.
When I lay I count the stars and recall some of those adventures I had way a far.
Then I come back down to earth with great tails of foreign worlds.
I tell me children my tails and their children too.
I'm an old man now but I really loved and enjoyed my youth.

Writer's BlockA writer's block is something nobody can bear,
That's the truth, that I swear.
We all have a specific goal that we write for,
Even if it sometimes start to feel like a chore.

When our minds are shrouded and we can't think clear,
That's perfectly normal have no fear.
We might not be able to write about the things we like,
Then sometimes the most brilliant inspiration will strike.

Until we get inspired we should practice writing more,
Even if it's just a simple story about how you went to a store.
We must broaden our horizons for new themes and such,
Maybe we find a subject for which we have a special touch.

A Letter to No OneThe clock ticked against silence,
Upon the cemetery of a room.
Deep sighs weave through the air,
Meager warmth in compressed despair.

Moths fall prey to a musty lampshade,
An opened window to Night’s gloom.
Thoughts dance like ripples on water,
And clouds on the hiding moon.

A lullaby plays from the gentle sound,
Made by scratching pen on paper.
One story told too many times,
Is voiced from words created.

Though this time revived from lies,
A phoenix forms the ugly truth.
The pen rolls from the wooden desk,
Having served its final use.

Old dusty dolls and teddy bears,
Watched helplessly through glassy eyes.
No star showed to twinkl

"I hate hospitals."

"Why's that?"

"They're always trying to hide."

"What do you mean by 'hide'?"

"You smell that?"

"Yea. Smells clean."

"I hate that smell."

"Why?"

"It's too clean. It's like they're trying to hide the fact that people die here."

"Well that's morbid..."

"It's the truth."

"Would you rather it smell like germs and corpses?"

"No. But that's not the point."

"What is your point?"

"It's all just too... pleasant."

"Well yea. Hospitals are meant to help people. They're supposed to be pleasant."

is anyone listening, this ship is sinking,
there's blood on the waves, concrete rumors of mutiny.
treason at sea, last words in morse code, anyone..

throwing what's left of our lives on this line.
casting lines returning empty,
the static silence leaves us reeling..

He slept with both eyes open

As the maiden near him cried

Under covers tightly woven

They knew tomorrow would be goodbye

He gave her all he had

But soon she'd have to go

Leaving him very sad

And possibly quite alone

She could have been pelted

By stones from those arms

Who would rather see her swelter

Under fire by a barn

Every time they tried

To torture her to death

This man would come around

And defend her one last breath

But now she would be cast

Into the morning's rising sun

I can't say I know for sure

What exactly she had done

Was she deemed a witch?

A fugitive? A traitor?

Was she the town's snitch

Oceane, Adrift
Undone from sea-moorings,
I float.

The sea has bid me barren, an
island with no anchor.

Bleak and pale I drift,
to and fro.

Gentle giants nudge me,
their fins propellers – spurring
me on.

Sailors cry out, their
voices lost amid deep thoughts and
deeper dreams.

I drift, an island set
free too soon.

Anchorless, I ride storms and waves;
the way children ride ponies.

Torn from my harbour,

Hello? Can anyone hear me?
I'm stuck here in this cave
Was that the sound of bullets?
It certainly isn't rain
When will mommy and daddy return?
I'm so cold here and alone
This fire doesn't burn
This country is not my home
How could this have happened?
I am only nine
Tomorrow is my birthday
I haven't done a crime
Mommy and daddy said to wait
As they went to gather food
I hope they're not the bait
To delighten someone's mood
What if they never come back?

Your face is smooth
        like the edge of a freshly wiped blade

Your skin is warm
        like teardrops in a steel morgue

Your hands are soft
        like linen sheets over pale, cool remains

Your hair falls to your shoulders
        with the accuracy of a weighty noose

Your stride is as confident
        as a blood-spattered Gladiator

Your legs send my heart
        into a state of hysteria with an assassin's efficiency

Never have I wanted so badly
        something so fearsome
        so bone-chilling

                Now tell me, my darling,
                that you feel the same.
